About NeesSweets
Some of my earliest memories of when and how I became passionate about cooking come from my amazing grandmother. She would get up before sunrise and make fresh bread from scratch. The smell of yeast and butter would permeate the house and I would watch in awe as she made it look so effortless. A mid-wife from Latta, South Carolina, back then, I pictured her as being the equivalent to Wonder Woman! My grandmother has always been my inspiration and so I have been cooking and baking for my family since I was able to see just above the height of the kitchen table.

In those early years, I would experiment with boxed mixes and a variety of ingredients through trial and error so that today I am able to create recipes to indulge even the pickiest of eaters. Throughout the years, my family and friends have come to adore my cooking and baking, simply because I put my heart and soul into each and every recipe. Just like my southern roots, I only use the freshest, highest quality ingredients and that makes all of the difference in the world.

NeesSweets began, quite honestly, in the mid 80’s when I’d ship homemade treats around the world. More frequently I would ship to family and friends across the country for birthdays, holidays and special events and today it is my pleasure to ship to you. From local restaurants and natural stores, to fundraising opportunities for your school district, NeesSweets is available to satisfy your sweet tooth.

When you take a bite of our buttery, moist, chewy, crispy, fluffy, flavorful sweets, (say that three times fast) you’ll know that they're organic because you smell, feel and taste their freshness. Because we do not use preservatives or stabilizers our desserts should be enjoyed immediately or refrigerated for no longer than three days.

At NeesSweets we believe in small batch baking to guarantee freshness – there are no shortcuts in my kitchen – that’s simply not how my grandmother taught me to bake.

Your opinion is just as important to me as my family and friends’ opinions, so please do contact me when you’ve received your order and be sure to let me know what you think!!

What is organic?
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has an organic certification that requires all organic foods to meet very strict government standards. These standards regulate how foods are grown, handled and processed. Any farmer or food manufacturer who labels and sells a product as organic must be USDA certified as meeting these standards. Foods that contain less than 70 percent organic ingredients cannot use the organic seal or the word "organic" on their product labeling. You may see other terms on food labels, such as "all-natural," "free-range" or "hormone-free." These descriptions are important, but they should not be confused with the term "organic." Only those foods that are grown and processed according to USDA organic standards can be labeled organic.

Why is organic important?
When I describe what it means to be organic, I often think of my grandmother’s farm. The cows grazed on grass and the chickens roamed in their coups. They were not fed chemicals or steroids to make them grow or produce more. Organic, to me, means food the way our great grandparents intended. The products that I use come from organic growers/producers that do not use chemical fertilizers to promote plant growth nor do they use spray insecticides to reduce pests or manage weeds. When non-organic farmers spray pesticides, this can leave residue on produce. Consumers buy organic food to limit their exposure to these residues. Organic products may spoil faster because they aren't treated with waxes, preservatives or additives. Organic farming practices are designed to benefit the environment by reducing pollution and conservation such as water and soil. Most organic food costs more. These higher prices are due to more expensive farming practices, tighter government regulations and lower crop yields.
